NASA Astronauts Return to Earth, Splashdown on SpaceX Dragon Endeavor
In the event of a successful landing, the completion of the mission will mark the first splashdown of astronauts since 1975.
Two NASA astronauts who arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) in a SpaceX rocket at the end of May return to Earth.
Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken took part in a farewell ceremony on Saturday at the ISS, hours before their scheduled flight to Earth in the SpaceX Dragon capsule..

Despite the approach of Hurricane Isaiah to the United States, NASA said the weather was favorable for the capsule to splash down Sunday afternoon in the Gulf of Mexico near Panama City, Florida. This will be the first splashdown of astronauts in 45 years. The last time the astronauts splashed down after the joint US-USSR space mission “Apollo-Soyuz”. in 1975.

Following the launch of Hurley and Behnken from Kennedy Space Center on May 30, SpaceX became the first private company to send humans into Earth orbit. SpaceX is now set to be the first private company to return humans from orbit.
“The launch was more difficult, but the main thing was our return home,” Behnken said..
According to Benken, a successful splashdown will call the launch of the American crew of astronauts “full cycle”.
ISS Commander Chris Cassidy, who will remain aboard with two Russian cosmonauts until October, presented Hurley with a small US flag left by previous astronauts after launching to the ISS from US soil in July 2011. Hurley was the pilot on this last Shuttle flight. This flag will be delivered to the moon in the future as part of NASA’s Artemis program.
Elon Musk’s SpaceX easily edged out Boeing, which has no plans to launch its first team until next year. SpaceX’s next flight is scheduled for late September.
