The prominent leader of the Belarusian opposition faces up to five years in prison after being accused of calling for actions that undermine national security, authorities in Minsk said.
Maria Kolesnikova called for “actions aimed at causing harm to the national security of the Republic of Belarus, committed using the media and the Internet,” said the Investigative Committee of the country.
Kolesnikova, who became one of the main figures of mass protests against President Alexander Lukashenko, is currently in prison in Minsk.
She was taken into custody last week after tore up her passport to prevent an attempted deportation to Ukraine, two of her associates said at a press conference..
