Pelosi Creates New Coronavirus Committee
Bipartisan committee to monitor government response to pandemic
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the creation of a new bipartisan coronavirus committee to oversee the government’s response to the pandemic.
The committee will be chaired by Jim Cliburn.
Talking to reporters via conference call, Pelosi said that for now, the committee will focus on the current situation without discussing the initial reaction of the administration, although the time will come when it will be appropriate to conduct such an analysis..
According to Pelosi, the committee “will be empowered to examine all aspects of the federal government’s response to the coronavirus and to ensure that taxpayer money is spent wisely and efficiently to save lives, aid and support the economy.”.
House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy condemned Pelosi’s decision to create a separate coronavirus committee, calling the move “unnecessary” as the existing committees are capable of overseeing.
