It is one of several works on Asian themes to have won the Pulitzer Prize in Literature. In terms of drama, the highest award went to Ayyad Akhtar’s Disgraced, about a successful American lawyer of Pakistani descent, and the award for best historical work went to Fredrik Logewall’s Embers of War: The Fall of an Empire and the Making of America’s Vietnam.
