“President Trump is committed from day one to protect the national security of all Americans, and the implementation of this regulation is a turning point in the administration’s efforts to put America first and hold the perpetrators accountable,” Ross said. “Strong ICT supply chain defenses will protect American citizens and companies from vulnerabilities that could compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of their personal information or confidential data from malicious foreign adversaries and those who wish to harm the United States.”.

On May 15, 2019, President Trump issued a decree empowering the Secretary of Commerce to prohibit certain information and communications technology transactions if they were “designed, developed, manufactured, or supplied by persons owned, controlled, or under the jurisdiction or direction of foreign adversaries ”and represents pose a threat to US national security. The Department of Commerce will now be able to establish procedures for identifying, evaluating and reviewing certain transactions.

Restrictions will take effect after 60 days.
